The currency conversion fee (2.5%)

When a buyer pays in a different currency than your shop, Etsy converts the money and keeps 2.5%. This hits international sellers hard:

• A US seller getting paid in euros pays 2.5% on conversion
• A UK seller selling to US buyers pays 2.5% every time
• The fee applies to the full order including shipping

For shops with lots of foreign sales, this quietly adds up. If 30% of your orders are international, budget an extra 0.75% of total revenue to conversion fees.

VAT and taxes - separate from Etsy fees

Etsy's fees are separate from the taxes you owe:

• US: Etsy may collect sales tax from buyers where required; you handle your own income tax
• UK: Etsy collects VAT on its own fees in most cases
• EU: Etsy handles VAT on digital goods; you manage your own obligations
